Let's talk about aerodynamic appendages and their mounting on bikepacking bikes.

The aerodynamic appendages are a very useful tool when you are looking for performance in the Trail. The aerodynamic advantage seems negligible but it is not at all, especially if multiplied by the times which often are days. The appendages are not very light but it is important that they are very solid to give safety even in the event of bumps or holes. Indeed, the MTB + Appendices handlebar solution is taking up a lot of space in the most rugged trails where driving can become very demanding but where a comfortable position to hold for many hours must be possible, especially saving the wrists. Scotsman has an average head tube of 20mm. shorter than the corresponding Westlander also because using a too long head tube 'raises' the front end limiting the efficiency of the aerodynamic position.

The appendages can also be mounted with the drop handlebar but in order not to eliminate the possibility of a high grip on the handlebar they must be tilting: this solution is used for example by Jay Petervary on his Salsa Cutthroat.
